Vesalius Museum seeks support: lend a hand to the restoration of anatomical wall charts
The University Archives holds an extensive collection of anatomical wall charts that came from the Anatomy Skills Centre. Due to frequent use in lectures, these charts have suffered damage in need of repair. The Vesalius Museum wants to display a series of wall charts with a focus on hands and arms. This ties in with Andreas Vesalius' innovation of performing dissections by hand and refers to the manual skills involved. Moreover, by focusing on hands and arms, we also tell an interesting art historical story, as these anatomical depictions of hands are brimming with symbolism.
The restoration cost for one wall chart is 2,500 euros. You can choose a donation of 50, 75 or 100 euros.

Wanted: partners for Vesalius Museum
The Vesalius Museum will be a unique museum in the heart of Leuven about science and well-being with the life cycle of humans as a common thread. It will be housed in the former pathological institute and anatomical theatre on Minderbroedersstraat, where students and researchers from the Faculty of Medicine still roamed until a few years ago. The Vesalius Museum is a joint project of KU Leuven and Leuven University Hospitals and targets a wide audience: from schoolchildren, students and healthcare professionals to tourists and companies. The museum will open its doors in December 2026.
Vesalius Museum is looking for partners and making a warm appeal to contribute to this unique project. A donation to the Vesalius Museum means a valuable contribution to the new hotspot for all those involved in medicine and healthcare. For donations of 40 euros or more, donors receive a tax certificate that allows them to receive 30% of the amount back as tax relief.
