What?

"The doctor had said to stop after a week." Marlies, 29, visits the practice for sleep advice. Her doctor prescribed sleep medication for a week, but 10 days later, sleeping without pills remains a challenge. Marlies has been struggling with sleep problems for a long time. A problem that affects her emotions, her thoughts, and thus her closest relationships.
The importance of sleep should not be underestimated, highlights Kristien Coteur. She helps people like Marlies to a better night's sleep and wants to share her expertise for free and on a large scale with the Sleeping Safe & Sound project.

In development: digital self-help for better sleep

Researchers are working on a digital self-help about insomnia and the use of sleep medication. They are integrating the principles of cognitive behavioural therapy for insomnia into the self-help, as this approach can also offer a healthy alternative to sleep medication digitally.

During development, the users, who are experts by their own experience, are central. In the first phase, 28 volunteers gave input on the desired structure and content. The next step is to build and evaluate the first version of the self-help
The free digital self-help gives users access to information on sleep, sleep medication use and withdrawal. They can work independently or collaborate with an appropriate counsellor.

With your support, we will develop and test the first version of the self-help.

All interested parties, sympathizers, and of course our donors, are invited to attend a (free) webinar in which Kristien Coteur debunks some persistent myths about insomnia.
The webinar will take place on January 15, 2025 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and can be followed via this Teams link

Did you know that with proper management of (chronic) insomnia in Belgium, we can boost the gross national product to almost 1%, or 5.5 billion, annually?
